"LAUREN: SPINNER AND WEAVER" appears on page 120 of
"ART DOLL QUARTERLY" Winter 2005 in the "Show & Tell" section.
LAUREN - SPINNER AND WEAVER:
In one hand Lauren holds some fleece
and in the other hand she holds a hand
spindle upon which she spins her yarn.
She is wearing a dress that I wove on my
loom out of strips of fabric. I designed,
sewed, stuffed, and painted her face.
Lauren was a challenge project for my
sewing guild. We were given a piece of
fabric and I had to do something with it.
I didn't know what to do so I cut it into
strips.
Lauren is named after one of my
granddaughters.
TOP PART OF LAUREN'S BODY:
HANDWOVEN FABRIC: I threaded my
loom with a Summer and Winter Weft
Face Block pattern in 4 harnesses. The
warp was 8/4 carpet warp and the weft
consisted of ½" strips of two different
cotton fabrics.
