LAUREN - SPINNER AND WEAVER:
In one hand Lauren holds some fleece and in
the other hand she holds a hand spindle upon
which she spins her yarn. She is wearing a
dress that I wove on my loom out of strips of
fabric. I designed, sewed, stuffed, and painted
her face.
Lauren was a challenge project for my sewing
guild. We were given a piece of fabric and I
had to do something with it. I didn't know what
to do so I cut it into strips.
This doll appeared in the Winter 2005 issue of
"ART DOLL QUARTERLY" on page 120 in the
SHOW AND TELL section.
Lauren is named after one of my granddaughters.
TOP PART OF LAUREN'S BODY:
HANDWOVEN FABRIC: I threaded my
loom with a Summer and Winter Weft
Face Block pattern in 4 harnesses. The
warp was 8/4 carpet warp and the weft
consisted of ½" strips of two different
cotton fabrics.
